The Great Barrier Barrier Reef off Cairns is World renowned for the Giant Black Marlin fishery that coincides with their annual spawning migration along the edge of the Reef.
This 150 mile stretch of Reef edge, from south of Cairns to the North of Cooktown produce large numbers of female Black Marlin from 500 pounds to well over 1000 pounds in size.
During the period between mid September to December the males from 150 to 300 pounds congregate and follow the the larger females along the reef edge.
This is what has anglers from all over the world coming to Cairns, for a chance of fishing for a Giant Black Marlin over the magical 1000 pounds.
Your time on the Reef
We highly recommend a Live Aboard charter from 5 to 7 days for the Giant Black Marlin season, as the fish can be moving anywhere along the Reefs edge.
Apart from the Marlin fishery, the reef offers a great array of different fish species to target in the mornings before we head out between the reef for the marlin fishing.
Target GT on poppers or work the reef edges trolling for different pelagics and also catching fresh supply of fresh baits for the days fishing or fresh reef fish for Dinner.

Cairns Giant Black Marlin Fishery took the Worlds centre stage in Game Fishing when Captain George Bransford and angler Richards Obach weighed a Black Marlin over 1000 pounds in 1966.
Since that first Grander, Cairns every season produces more 1000 pound plus Black Marlin than anywhere in the world, when they return every year to spawn along the edge of the Barrier Reef.
